At the bottom of the page, I posted Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner and basket opportunites. This seemed the most efficient means of getting the information out, as was requested of me. Share the information.
Note: senior exit interviews are on December 19 from 2-4 pm. Make arrangements. This is a graduation requirement. Still missing some writing samples. I am required to send your name to Ms. Aspenleiter, explaining how, despite multiple requests, you have not complied.
In class today: assessment on quotes and attribution.
At this point, you should understand the what makes news, what to include in a lead and how to incorporate quotes. We will work in class next week on composing headlines. Now it is time to choose your own story. To focus: (ASSIGNMENT-short one) I'd like you to select three stories from three different sources. and apply the questions below. Please respond in well-written, thoughtful sentences, not phrases. Please send along. You should be able to finish this in class today. Due by SUNDAY evening midnight, so as I can read them before class on Tuesday.
I am also giving you a handout on some ideas for news stories. You do not need to choose one of them, but you must make your selection and begin gathering your notes, including a quote, etc. Your story is due by Friday, November 16. There will be no class time to write. The rubric for your story should follow the criteria for newsworthyness, a well-written lead, inclusion of at least one quote with proper attribution, reported language and very, very importantly, correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
