In class today, we are having a silent discussion. What this specifically involves is that you'll be divided into groups of 4 and given 4 articles that discuss the reaction to Obama's reelection. Each person will take one and read it, marking in one of the quadrants comments, observations, questions or reflections on any aspect of the article. You must make at least four comments. When you have finished, you will pass the article to your left, where upon you will repeat the reading and comments. There should be no discussion among yourselves, while reading.
Once everyone has read all four articles, you will discuss what you have read with your group and develop a synthesis statement, that is a statement, which takes two kinds of information (or in this case four) and puts them together, so to get new information. Have one person in the group, write it on group's sheet. This will be on the wall. Time allowing, we will share these out.
Head's up: in class tomorrow you will be writing what is called a microtheme; the question is: How might the way the news about the presidental election impact the globe? This is an individual response to which you will refer to Monday's readings.
